Between 1982 and 1986, I helped write, edit, and publish two
non-fiction books, including such titles as
Who's Who in the Bedford and Maple Heights Area (Record Publishing),
and Taylor Chair - Seven Generations (Bedford Publishing).
In April 1986 I became president of Markle Enterprises, my own
advertising and publishing firm. Through that firm I was owner,
editor and publisher of The Envoy, a monthly local newspaper.
I continued the one-person newspaper until 1992, when I became ill
and sold the business. See my essay
Perseverance for this story.
I've published more than 2,500 articles, which have appeared in
major newspapers and magazines such as: The Cleveland Plain Dealer,
The Cleveland Press, The Envoy, The Beaver County Times,
Writer's Digest, and ByLine Magazine.
I was award recipient of the 1990 Woman of the Year for Beaver County,
Pennsylvania, for my accomplishments and excellence in journalism and
to the community.
I was on the staff of Slippery Rock University teaching my
copyrighted writing course Sell What You Write and
Creative and Freelance writing. I have appeared on television
and radio, hosted several Writers' Conferences, and spoke
for many conferences and writer's organizations.
After an eleven year lapse in my writing career, I've finally begun
to write again. My essay Perseverance explains my hiatus. My most recent articles were published in
ByLine Magazine, Writer’s Digest, Absolute Write, Moondance, The Compulsive Reader, BlogCritics,
Cleveland.com, nola.com, nj.com, pennlive.com,
mlive.com, masslive.com, Alabama Everything,
and the Plain Dealer .
